A ROM Thanks to Chris Gerstner for a Fabulous Feature!!

Hi Folks,

For those of you that were able to come out on the Frigid weather of our most recent ROM on
 1-24-11,
I thank you so very much and I need NOT explain to you, how your, presence, warmth and Community that each and everyone of you that performed brought in with you but I do especially want to say a BIG thanks to Chris Gerstner for her wonderful Feature which left us all, with a special warm feeling as we left ROM and went back out to the very cold outdoors!!! For those of you that were unable to join us to see & hear Chris for her Feature, more real exciting news!!  Chris Gerstner is going to be Opening her very own Open Mike!!! It is called the Fireside Coffeehouse and is, (thankfully NOT), on a Monday eve but rather and  a most interesting approach will begin on Sunday March 6, from 2-4 PM. The Coffeehouse will take place inside the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 24 Berwick St. in Norwood Ma. This will be a couples format Coffeehouse so as Chris suggest's if you are used to playing solo, try and take this opportunity to pair up with a friend and work up some tunes together!! At the March 6th grand Opening the duo of Cooper and Kenneally will be doing a half hour session. If you have never been in a Cooper & Kenneally audience, after this show you will be seeing them whenever you can as they a super artists that are wonderful together in Concert and genuinely nice folks in person!! Thanks Chris for adding yet a new Venue to the Local Arts scene to have yet another new home!! If you have any further questions about the upcoming venue please contact: firesidecoffeehouse@gmail.com

In other Venue NEWS for the many of you that know our dear Open Mike friend to all, Ellen Schmidt, I was honored last evening to attend what was the Grand Finale Show at this particular location at Savoury Lane in West Acton, Ma. The business has a  new owner and one that will NOT be having the Open Mike. We had a wonderful night of Tribute from so many friends from all over Ellen's wonderful Cadre of dear friends artist's, her Ellen Umbrella of Community and to Ellen Schmidt I say thanks Ellen for all you have offered us at Savoury since 2009 and for continuing with you Emerson Umbrella Open Mike while you search for a location to hold you newest addition to your network of keeping the arts going as close to 7 days a week as possible!!!

I would at this time like to request that anyone that may know of any place that may be inviting of hosting an Open Mike with Ellen Schmidt as a tested guided leader to please contact Ellen at eschmidt01742@gmail.com. I know Ellen is anxious to get all her previously lined up features to stay in place and that is happening through February thanks to her relationship witht eh Emerson Umbrella. So if you have any thoughts please contact Ellen.

Upcoming at ROM is a special treat for me. Our next feature will be Amy Petty (www.amypetty.com) Amy's feature will be on a special to many holiday on 2-14-11. Happy Valentines day all!!!!

I have seen Amy several times and have never been disappointed and I know you will be feeling the same way after this feature. Amy has traveled nationally in fact Amy was a re-schedule from 2010 as she was on tour and was kind enuf to ask me months ahead if moving her feature into the next year was a possibility and here we are on the doorstep of her very exciting Feature at ROM!! She has a wonderful CD and I already have at least one request, for Amy I am certain you will all love!!! Until then my dear friends, please be Safe out there in this typical New England Winter and along with that notion do remember that is one of our current themes for any NEW songs Poems ect you my jot, Winter in New England!!!

Last but NOT least importantly our dear friend Junko Ogawa will be performing on 2-12-11 at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain. Junko will be splitting the bill with others but will perform a 30 minute set herself. Please check the specifics on her website:www.junkosings.com

A ROM Thanks to Guys and Dahl

To all my dear Museum of Fine Artist's at Roslindale Open Mike,  THANK YOU!!!

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Chip Canty, Cecilia Dahl and George Cronin (AKA Guys and Dahl), for a fantastic 2011 Anniversary Show Feature at ROM!!!

I would be remiss if I left out the fact that so many of you showed up to ROM as we have been so very blessed from our very beginning with the most incredible base of Supporters of ROM than I could ever have imagined!! I do thank each and every one of you that join us in song, spoken word, comedy, magical events, and the many artforms yet to be seen at ROM. We are always looking for and open for any forms of entertainment as long as it does fall into our steadfast "Family Friendly", atmosphere & umbrella!!

We are now looking ahead to our upcoming ROM which will Feature the wonderful sounds and songs of Christiana Gerstner www.christianagerstner.com

We did want to wish David Jackson, John Boehmer, Ed Banatt and Bill Duncan a very Happy Birthday on our very special Anniversary week. We did have a cake in place to celebrate this wonderful event and we began our night and my thanks to Charlie Ortolani & Bill Duncan and Mike for opening our show in honor of these birthdays with, The Beatle's Birthday song!! The night only grew stronger and better from there. At points we were at standing room only with over 30 folks that ook to the stage to play and possibly more. I will have to count from the mere 464 pix I took that night. Please do gently remind me if you DO NOT get pix sent you you after a ROM. To my knowledge thus far there have only been 2 people in 3 years where I was busy with other matters of running the house but I do my best to limit those occasions as I love both listening and learning as I am working through the lens of my camera!!

You have continued the spirit at ROM! That is so profound and so Community for both Mike and myself and I say with comfort for both Mike and myself, we have a great 2011 line up already in place!

If there is anyone that is interested in being placed on the feature Request list for 2012. Please make sure you email me at neal@roslindaleopenmike.org. There are no guarrantee's and I have established a backup list for 2011 should there be a need to fill in a Feature if given enough notice!! I thank you for your patience and understanding in the process of selecting Features. We only do 23 Venues per year and we had 96 request's for Features for 2011. That is a total honor to what Mike and I have attempted to do at ROM!!

Hope to see you at ROM on 1-24-11

Always, Neal :)))

IT's Official, Anniversary Show at ROM and a Resolution already achieved!

HAPPY 2011!!!!!

A reminder that our Community at ROM goes into Anniverary Show for Year Number 3 tomorrow Monday 1-10-11 Our feature will be GUYS and Dahl, This wonderful energy fillled  trio consists of:
Chip Canty, Cecilia Dahl and Geroge Cronin.
It will be a fabulous night at ROM so please do come!!!

Going into 3 years now I have wished to light our stage at ROM!! I had resolved in 2011 I would do my best to make it happen!!!

Yesterday a wonderful gentleman (and musician I may add), donated  an entire stage Lighting System to ROM. I would like to thank Mike Emery for this genrous donation. At this point the only thing I will need to add to it are 2 tri-pod stands to hold 2 racks of small canned lights! if anyone has 1 or 2 they NOT be using!! Please do let me know!!
What a Great way to start the New Year at ROM, Thanks agin to Mike Emery!

This has been a worldwind weekend of fun, music and friends! It began on Friday at Sanders Theatre (one of the most beautiful venues I have ever been to), for A Pleasant(s) Evening! This Show was a packed/sold out show I attended with Branson Bofat and we had no tix and were able to get 2 tix while in waiting line dead ctr in the 1st row mezzanine. In my opinion, Best seats in that beautiful House!!
My personal Congrats and thanks to Dick Pleasant's for his 40 plus years on Boston's Folk Radio!!
Dick is also as many of you know the Founder of the world famous SAMW!!!!!!

I may be attending a SAMW reunion today at UMass-Boston on an invite from my dear friend Mike Delaney. Though I have yet to make it there, Mike feels I would fit right in as I already know so many of the campers!!! I may see you there!

Lastly, I had a wonderful evening last night at Passim's with dear singer/songwriter, but more importantly dear friend Junko Ogawa. We went to see Randall Kromm, well known to us at ROM as the opening act and his own and First CD Release Party! The CD is called WATER WHEEL (www.randallkromm.com) Randall was fabulous and had the packed house mezmorized by his style and from the heart songs of life! I highly recommend adding randall's new CD to you To Do list of CD's to get!!! AS I did mention Randall was the opening act for yet another dear friend of ROM that being, DON WHITE who oddly enough also has a brand new incredible CD just released called: "Winning Streak" (www.donwhite.net) Don's presence, performance and just his all encopassing approach to his audience was so wonderful and endearing!! Thanks Don and Randall for a great night of music, Community and Friendship along with a wee bit of Networking for all!!

For the very unsual Encore in the Folk world, Don called Randall back to the stage but also asked aother young lad from Lynn named Eric Houde and then a wonderful friend of ROM and (very specially dear friend to me), and the the entire folk world, Ellen Schmidt was in the house and Don asked Ellen to join them all on stage for the Final song of the night which happens to be one of my personal all time favorite songs called "Irene Goodnight". It was harmonic and magical!!! It was a song my mother used to sing to me as a youngin and then we went on to sing it as a family and then I even used to play it on my own guitar back in the horse drawn age!!!!

Happy 2011 everybody and lets see you at ROM as often as possible!!

All my best, Always, Neal :))))
