What a great show we had a ROM for Ed Banatt's Feature on

WE all did leave as Ed our Walking Minstrel has said he goal was for us to leave with smile on our face and Love in our hearts. Ed my friend, WE all DID!!! Thanks so much!!

MY thanks to to each and everyone one of you that peroformed at ROM that night as well those of you that came simply to be part of this incredible and wonderful COMMUNITY, in place because of  YOU!!!! There would be NO ROM without all of you  & your imput. Our hope as we look forward to very Final Feature for our ROM-2011 Season this coming Monday 12-12-11 when our feature will be the multi-talented "Walnut" to many of his older dear friends and we number large in the "Old friends" category or now with the Release of his Fabulous New CD entitled "LOVE IS IN YOUR FACE". Walnut has opened his audience appeal to an even greater level than he has always has as his doorway to. One of the item of great  importance Walnut has successfully done on the part of this authors writing is to open that door to a culture, in this case "Hip Hop" music poetry, to Walnut's philosophy of about what so many people do in fact miss. Walnut does say " What Better a way to have them understand the Hip Hop culture than to have them be a part of the culture itself" After over 3 years of putting this CD together Walnut has taken pieces of ALL of our many Multi-cultural, Multi-ethnic and multi National Cultures that make up this wonderful Community of ours open mike families come and join us Monday at ROM 12-12-11!!!!
Please remember we only hold 1 ROM in December

Mike & I have what we feel will a an incredible year of  most wonderful Features but also the most important part in our lives is to meet and greet new faces to our doorway at ROM. Please do pass the word about ROM to frriends and family of all ages, as well as the many other Open Mikes and performers represented by my very infrequent Blog. Please see our ROM website for some of the incredible features already on our website for all of ROM- 2012. It is going to be a fun year with some ever changing idea's on our part.  After a meeting with the Church board this past Sunday, we will be beginning something Mike and I had spoken about for a while now but now with the permission of the Church  board we now have the use of the entire church for what we will be pursuing as part of our upcoming Roslindale Open Mike Concert Series. These will need to be events to help raise some monies for this very special Roslindale Congregational Church. Nothing in place at this point but please do all you can to join us to these special weekend Venues once they are adverttised as we will have a seating limit and you will want to join us and puchase tix as this will be Fundraising for this Church our Home of ROM!!!

If by chance my "Infrequent Blog" does NOT appear before the begining of the Holiday Season. Mike & I wish you all a most wonderful, Happy, Safe and Healthy Holiday Season.

A most Wonderful Thanksgiving to all and how you celebrate it and a NEVER TOO late Tribute and THANKS to our VETERAN's, PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE!

To all our Dear friends of ROM,

A short thank you note to one and all who have been so much a wonderful and caring part of our ROMulin Family. Our most heartfelt thanks goes out to our most recent and fabulous ROM Feature Licia Sky. Licia was a gem of a feature and I feel as if we had our very own "Licia in our sky with Diamonds", Thanks Licia for an incredible evening we were all treated to by YOU!!!!

WE do have a wonderful upcoming feature this coming Monday 11-28-11 or (ROMday) as it is known in the Church. Our very own favorite, "The Walking Minstrel" MR. Ed (HELLOOO Roslindale) Banatt will be our next  fabulous feature at ROM. I already know that Ed has a wonderful set already for us and I cannot wait for it to happen!!!!

I do want to mention some special &  important notes.

Harvey Rudman who was feeling a bit under the weather at our last ROM has asked me to let you know how important each & everyone of you in our ROM Community mean to him. I have had a ton of emails & calls to see how Harvey is doing. I just spoke to Harvey and he is doing much better and is eagerly awaiting to see all at our very next ROM.

I also just got a call from Ginny Gibson who has not made to the past couple of ROM events as she is so busy at her own Church. Both she and Harvey asked me to relay their wishes for a most wonderful Thanksgiving to one and all.

As I mentioned in our Subject line it is never too Late to Thank our Veteran's!!! I do want to say a special thanks to John Olivere and Roland Blair for their personal tribute Concert for all Vets and their families as they have with the great help of Stephen Martin by hostng a wonderful Tribute to Veteran's Concert which I was honored to be in attendance for at the most welcoming Catbird Cafe in Weymouth on 11-11-11. What a great event and a great group of folks that paid Tribute to all our Vets and their Families.

You will find more info there about open mikes than you thought was possible!!!

I do also want to throw in a plug for our around the corner neighbor Open Mike, the Theodore Parker Unitarian Universalist Open Mike held the last Saturday of each month. There website is located on the email linksection of this blog!!!

Lastly, it is absolutely beyond me where 2011 has gone. Our final show for ROM-2011 will be held on 12-12 -11 our grand Finale feature for this very special year closing show will be the imcomparable "Walnut".

Please remember!!! In December due to respect for all the Holidays there will be only ONE ROM Venue!!!

Mike & I have worked very hard and have put together a Feature list that now apppears for your viewing pleasure on our webstie at www.roslindaleopenmike.org. Mike & I feel ROM-2012 will be absolutely fantastic and there are even more special events that are yet to be mentioned. WE'll be in touch so you be in touch and we'll see ya at our next ROM this coming Monday on 11-28-11 for ED Banatt.

My love and thanks to all, Always, Neal :)))

"It's Now the time of the Foliage" SO many thanks!!!!

To all of our Dear ROM Community,

Thank you all so much for the genuine Support of Roslindae Open Mike that both Mike Delaney and I have been so very blessed with. This is, as you may already figure, (for those that know my technology talents = NONE), my attempt to jot my infrequent ROM Community Blog.

I do want to begin by thanking our most recent past Features at ROM which begins when I last jotted with, David Hoffman, Diane Brown, Harvey Rudman, Randall Kromm, Dan and Faith Senie and just last night, Stephen & The Snake!!!!

To all of you, thanks for being who you are and what you offered to our audiences in so many varying types of the performance skills yet always riveting and helping us secure the Foundation of what the ROM Community is. WE are so totally blessed in our little spot on this big Globe to have so very many wonderful artist's that do always come and play at ROM but also, we are additionally blessed by so many remarkable, Open Mike/Coffehouse/spoken word and the like Host's that make all of our Local music/spoken word artists heard and heard every day of every week!! Mike & I know that you cannot always be with us on Monday as there as so many others Venues on that very same night. WE do our best to help advertise at ROM for each and evry Venue even if they are on the same night. This is NOT about competition it is about spreading the word of the Arts!!

If any of you reading this may have a flier you like us to display at ROM please simply send it to my attention to neal@roslindaleopenmike.org and it will be displayed. I do have several important and upcoming announcements and Fundraiser info I will put at the end of this note.

Our next feature at ROM will be on 10-24-11. This will be a Feature by a performer that many of you know and have been to his very own recording studio, Melville Park Studio to record your own Cd's.
Our next Feature is none other than STEVE FRIEDMAN. This will be a first in a long time for Steve to be performing at ROM as he is always behind the console doing recordings of each and every performer that comes to ROM. For those of you who have not had a chance to hear Steve Friedman on stage performing this is a show NOT to miss!!! ( I wonder if Steve will let me touch his recording stuff so we can have a Steve friedman CD????)

I NEED HELP!!! We now do have a ROM stage lighting set. WE DO NOT HAVE a Stage lighting Volunteer at this time. Though we have gone this many years without, (I feel it adds a sense of FOCUS more on the Performers on stage ). If anyone out there is willing to Volunteer their services to do the lighting set up and take down to get in touch with me.

Our ROMuhost Mentorship Program This is a wonderful idea that I stole/borrowed from my dear friend Ellen Schmidt. Ellen has had great success with having Volunteers do some hosting for parts of her many Venues. I only have one that I am trying to get Volunteers for and it is very simple and Open to anyone to try. It is simply giving our dear host at ROM, Mike Delaney a break and let him do more music, (we like that)!!! It is just introducing the next performer or a series of performers you may feel comfortable in presenting. Most of you would love to NOT hear me babble on so I am trying to get the help for me too!!! I am NOT a host at all, I am just the pix guy!!!

I will close this part of the Blog with those thought's Please do come and join us at ROM whenever possible. Please continue to go to the many other venues that support local music/spoken word and all the Arts as well!!!

Upcoming announcements: I will do my best to remember these in order by date. I encourage you to seek out as many of these wonderful venues as possible for our dear friends as well as the causes that are most important and represented.

Before I do go there I do ask that you please take a look at your websites to the right side of the screen and if I am missing any, or they are no longer accurate please do feel free to jot to me as I do want as much cutting edge info on all our dear friends of ROM. I do have a some Volunteer needs. Our thanks to Darwin MacDonald who was our stage lighting Volunteer. Darwin's job does now require him to be working durng our times of ROM. Thanks for all you did for us Darwin but now we are seeking someone to Volunteer to manage our Lighting board with both set up and take down. If you may be tech savvy which you all know, I am NOT!! Please do let me know. Even if we set up a rotating schedule, any help will be great help!!!

We, at the Museum of Fine Artist's at Roslsindale Open Mike have really out-grown our wall space and tables! If anyone may know where I may be able to get a table top, light -weight swivel Poster holder donated/used ect that would save me so much set up and break down time as well as funds.

We do have several upcoming wonderful shows of dear friends of ROM. I will do my best to copy & paste as I am bad at paraphrasing. I will add these, I hope by the earliest date and onward.

The first of these is our Dear friend and very talented Tom Smith will be getting ready to release his first studio CD!!! I will start Toms note here:

Tom Smith The Kitchen Musician ~ Sept. 2011
Hello Friends,
Big musical news this month. Announcing Journey Home, my first studio album of original songs, to be distributed by Birch Beer Records. And several big shows coming up, including my first feature show at Club Passim on Oct 16th, my CD release celebration at Amazing Things Arts Center on Nov 6th, and the launch of my kickstarter campaign to support the new CD. Come into the kitchen, and I’ll fill you in on all of the exciting details!

It is with great pleasure that I announce that my new CD Journey Home is finished and sent to manufacturing. I am extremely proud of the songwriting and musicianship on this album. It was a labor of love. It sounds great, in part because of the superior talents of the folks who have collaborated with me. Most importantly Seth Connelly, who produced, recorded, edited and mixed it with great care. Equally important, Seth has been my creative partner. I left each studio session telling myself that I am so fortunate to work with such a talented man.
Joining me on this album are some stellar musicians, including Mally Smith and Alle Santiago (vocals), Oen Kennedy (vocals and whistling), Joyce Andersen (fiddle and viola), Sean Staples (mandolin), Eric Royer (banjo), Billy Novick (clarinet) and Seth Connelly (vocals, guitar, upright bass, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki).
To help me share this album with the world, Birch Beer Records will be doing the distribution. You can purchase my CD from Birch Beer records starting Nov. 8, 2011. It is an honor to be included as a Birch Beer Records artist. Although a young company, BBR has a strong track record and growing presence in supporting the best of local music in my home state of Massachusetts. My new album “Journey Home” is a perfect fit. Although each BBR title is unique, all have a common respect for what I call music that is on a human scale. No big dollar productions here – just great songwriting delivered by top notch musicians in warm acoustic settings. It is wonderful to be in such company.
Now I am asking for your help to take this project across the finish line. The post-production tasks of graphic design, disc mastering and manufacturing will cost over $2500. I have created a Kickstarter campaign to help me reach that goal. Via the Kickstarter project page you can pre-order the CD (to be received BEFORE the CD release celebration). There are also other rewards if you pledge even more to the campaign. The following video was created to tell you a little bit about the campaign, and how you can help.

Plenty of great music and entertainment at ROM upcoming!!!

Hello dear friends,

This will be a brief note just to remind you of few special items!!!

The first one of course is to HAVE AN AWESOME SUMMER!!!!

2ND - TO ALL OUR SAMW CAMP KIDZ PAST AND THIS COMING WEEK HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT WEEK 1 AND WILL HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK 2.

Speaking of week 2 at SAMW. While our wonderful HOST Mike Delaney will be away at Camp, Bill Duncan has gracioulsy again this year offered to fill in for Mike in the Host and audio portion of this week's upcoming Feature on 8-22- 11 and our ROM Feature will be HARVEY RUDMAN!!!!!

We hope to see you there and again my thanks go out to Bill Duncan for helping out with our audio/host setting while Mike is away.
Speaking of host's, our ROMuhost Mentorship Program has been a wonderful success!! For those that may have missed it, it is simply volunteering to introduce upcoming performers as Mike usually does as well as make announcements ect. This is a NO Pressure involvement and if at the beginning of any show you would be interested in doing this please just see me and you can do it for 1 intro or for several. It is completely flexible and we try to be user friendly in mentoring as you go along!! I must tell you this os NOT my idea, I saw it work so very well at my dear friend Ellen Schmidt's venues which I highly would highly recommend if you have NOT been to one please take a look at Ellen's website which is: www.ellenschmidt.com

Also for those of you who may be going away to camp and for those of you "In the Mood" for a songwriter/artist challenge, I have added a new title which I would love to see folks start writng songs. poetry, artwork ect about and this will be for a Future project, but would love to hear new pieces written or interpreted by you or one you know of which contains the theme of
"YOU ARE THE REASON".  It is a non specific YOU as well as REASON. It can be about a loved one, a caring anybody, a nod to any Military and or any folks in all our Emergency Services Professions that place themselves in harms way to care for all of us and our families. If you can think of anything you could jot on the topic, we would love to hear it at ROM...

I look forward to seeing and hearing you all on Monday!! Have a great weekend and  Until we meet again.... Always, Neal :))))
